To help us help you, include your phone model, your iOS or Android version and CineRelay version, your camera and its firmware, and what you see on screen (a screenshot is perfect).
Which camera and phone do I need?
You need a compatible camera connected over USB-C: the first verified camera is the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, and we are adding more cameras and more brands. You also need an iPhone with a USB-C port (iPhone 15 and later) running iOS 18 or later, or an Android 8.0 or later phone with USB-C and USB host (OTG) support; on Android we recommend Android 10 or later and at least 6 GB of RAM. The up-to-date list of cameras and phones, the cables and the storage you need are on the Compatibility page. We mark a camera as verified only after testing it in the field.
The app can’t find the camera. What should I check?
Switch the camera on and use a USB-C data cable: many cables are charge-only. Open CineRelay on the Camera tab and tap the connect button: with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II (the first verified camera) it is “Connect Canon USB”. The first time you connect, allow access to connected devices. If you denied it, turn it back on in Settings › CineRelay. If the message persists, unplug the cable, switch the camera off and on again and tap “Retry”.
Which settings can I change from the phone?
The ones the camera makes available: ISO, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, white balance, focus mode and area, eye detection, picture style and more. You can also start and stop recording and take photos. Resolution, frame rate and codec are still set from the camera’s menus; with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II (the first verified camera), Canon Log too.
Does importing delete files from the card?
No. CineRelay copies photos and videos into the app’s library and always leaves the originals on the card untouched. In Destinations you can choose to import only new files, the whole card or nothing. Keep the app open during USB transfers.
Can I import from an SD card reader?
Yes, from an SD reader through the Files app. Connect a USB-C SD card reader to your smartphone: on iPhone the card appears in the iOS Files app. In CineRelay open the Library tab, tap “Import from Files” and select photos and videos from the card. On Android you can also use “Import a folder (SD card)” to bring in the whole folder in one go. Here too, the originals on the card stay untouched.
How do I connect Google Drive or Dropbox?
Go to Destinations, choose the service and tap “Connect”. Google’s or Dropbox’s official sign-in page opens: your password never passes through CineRelay. On Google Drive the app can see only the files it creates. To unlink the account, tap “Disconnect”.
How do I set up an FTP server?
In Destinations choose FTP and enter the server, port, username and password, then tap “Test connection”. Unencrypted FTP sends passwords and files in clear text: use it only on your home or studio network. Implicit FTPS (usually port 990) is experimental; explicit FTPS (AUTH TLS) is coming soon. If the server is on your local network, allow CineRelay to access the local network.
An upload stopped. Does it start over?
No: it resumes from where it stopped. With “Wi-Fi only” turned on, uploads wait for a Wi-Fi network and do not start on mobile data or a hotspot. If you close the app, iOS lets it keep working in the background only for a short time: when you reopen it, the queue resumes on its own. For files with errors, tap “Retry” in Transfers.
How does the CineRelay Pro free trial work?
New subscribers get 7 days free, once per person, on the website and in the app alike, then €5.99/month or €39.99/year (prices for Italy, VAT included; App Store and Google Play prices vary by country and are shown before you buy). The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial or of the current period. If you cancel during the trial, you pay nothing. All the details are in the Terms.
I bought on the website. How do I activate Pro in the app?
Download CineRelay on your smartphone, iPhone or Android, open the Destinations tab and, in the Account section, sign in with the same email you used to buy on the website (on iPhone tap “Already have CineRelay Pro on another device? Sign in”): you receive a 6-digit code and Pro is already active. Do not buy again in the app, or you would pay twice. If Pro does not appear after signing in, check in Account that the email is the same, and write to us if needed.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
It depends on where you bought it. On the website: open Account and tap “Manage subscription”: in the Stripe portal you can change plan or card, download receipts or cancel. Through the App Store: on your iPhone open Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › CineRelay Pro; it is managed by Apple, and refunds are requested at reportaproblem.apple.com. Through Google Play: Play Store › profile icon › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions.
My sign-in code hasn’t arrived.
Check your spam folder and that the email address is spelt correctly. The code is valid for 10 minutes: after 30 seconds you can request a new one with “Send again”. If it still does not arrive, write to us at info@hartstudio.it.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, under the Destinations tab › Account › “Delete account”, or on the website in Account › “Delete account…”. If your subscription is through the App Store or Google Play, cancel it in the store first: deleting the account does not cancel it. All the details are on the Delete account page.
I changed smartphone: how do I get my subscription back?
Install CineRelay and sign in with the same email or, if you bought through the App Store, tap “Restore purchases” with the same Apple ID (with Google Play, the same Google account is enough). Remember that, for security, linked accounts and FTP passwords do not carry over to the new phone: you will need to connect them again.
Do my files go through your servers?
No. Files go directly from the phone to your Drive, Dropbox or FTP server. The CineRelay server knows only your account email and your subscription status. We use no analytics or tracking. You will find everything in the privacy policy.
How do I free up space or delete my data?
The library and proxies take up space on the phone. To free it up, tap “Select” in the Library tab, choose the files you no longer need and delete them (on iPhone you can also press and hold a file and choose “Delete from library”): the original and proxy disappear from the phone, while files already uploaded and those on the camera’s card stay where they are. Deleting the app erases the library, preferences and saved credentials.
